Cold Jet and Nippon Sanso Set New Nordic Standard with Fully Automated Dry Ice Production & Recovery Systems in Köping, Sweden
Cold Jet and Nippon Sanso Set New Nordic Standard with Fully Automated Dry Ice Production & Recovery Systems in Köping, Sweden
(Cold Jet bv, Belgium – May 28, 2026) – Following the official inauguration on May 28, 2026, Nippon Sanso can be proud to share the successful launch of a highly sophisticated dry ice production facility in Köping. This project represents a landmark collaboration, combining Nippon Sanso’s market leadership with Cold Jet’s world-class automated technology to meet the demand for dry ice cooling solutions in the airline, food, pharmaceutical, and industrial sectors, as well as dry ice needs for cleaning.
The new facility in Sweden will have a production capacity of 2,2 tones per hour, powered by the advanced Cold Jet technology to ensure the highest industry standards. With localized production, Nippon Sanso Sverige AB will significantly reduce transport times, delivering the freshest, superior-quality dry ice directly to Nordic customers.
The Power of a Turnkey Partnership & Solution
For Nippon Sanso, the decision to partner with Cold Jet was driven by the need for a seamless, integrated dry ice productions system. Rather than sourcing individual components, Nippon Sanso sought a turnkey solution where Cold Jet took full responsibility for the performance of the entire production line.
The combined systems from Cold Jet and Solveno Technologies offer the lowest cost per ton of captured and liquefied CO₂ and lowest cost per ton of dry ice production available in the market, providing a compelling economic advantage for biogas and RNG producers. This allows them to diversify their revenue streams and enhance their profitability while contributing to a more local circular economy. Furthermore, the ability to produce dry ice on-site opens doors to a vast array of end-user markets, including food processing, pharmaceuticals, transportation, and more.
“The cooperation with Cold Jet has been excellent—the communication was easy and direct,” stated Stefan Persson, Process Improvement Senior Manager at Nippon Sanso. “We didn’t want to buy equipment individually and struggle to make them work as a unit. We wanted a turnkey solution where the technology was integrated from the start. Together with Cold Jet and our engineering department, we have established a production line that is safer, easier to operate, and produces the highest quality dry ice possible!”
A Partnership Built on Innovation
The complete Cold Jet installation features a superior suite of Cold Jet technology, including:
- PR750H High-Efficiency Pelletizers for high-volume production.
- Conveyor system from pellet to reformer with control system.
- R1000H Pellet-to-Slice Reformers producing high-density slices ranging from 250g to 3kg.
- A Fully Automated Robotics System utilizing three robots to stack, wrap and to fill dry ice containers.
- RE-CO2 320 Recovery Systems to capture and recycle CO2 significantly increasing efficiency and sustainability.
Innovation in Sustainability: The RE-CO2 Recovery Advantage
At the heart of the Köping plant are Cold Jet’s innovative CO2 Recovery Systems (RE-CO2 320). In traditional dry ice production, a significant portion of liquid CO2 is typically vented into the atmosphere. The Cold Jet installation at Köping changes the math entirely:
- Significant Cost Savings: By capturing and reliquefying the gas that would otherwise be vented, Nippon Sanso will cut the LCO2 costs in half and drastically improve the conversion rate of LCO2-to-dry ice.
- Environmental Stewardship: The recovery units minimize the facility’s carbon footprint, aligning with Nippon Sanso’s commitment to “Improving life through gas technology.”
- Optimized Yield: The six integrated recovery units ensure that the facility operates at peak efficiency, turning waste into a resource.
Proximity and Flexibility
By integrating dry ice production with existing cylinder filling operations in Köping, Nippon Sanso can share resources—such as operators and logistics—to maximize operational agility. The plant will produce a versatile mix of pellets (3mm, 10mm, and 16mm) and slices (specifically 500g, 800g, and 1000g) to serve a diverse customer base.
“Reliability and flexibility are essential for our customers protecting sensitive goods,” said Stefan Persson. “This partnership with Cold Jet allows us to produce locally and scale quickly. Whether it’s for specialized transport, food safety, or industrial cleaning, we now provide dry ice that directly solves our customers’ most pressing logistical challenges.”
