Weld Line Cleaning

Weld Line and Other Cleaning Applications

There are many dry ice blast cleaning applications associated within the Welding and Automotive industry.

  • Spray Booth cleaning
  • E-coat and powder coat line cleaning
  • Tooling cleaning
  • Fan cleaning
  • Molds or Stamping equipment cleaning
  • Grate Air Box cleaning

Spray Booth Cleaning

Many Contractors use the Cold Jet dry ice blast cleaning process in the Body Shop. Typical uses include the cleaning of robots, weld fixtures, stamping fixtures, presses, etc. However, there are some more difficult cleaning areas that Cold Jet has been able to be used as well. For example, the paint spray booths. Because the spray booths are so difficult to clean many have years of paint on the walls, over spray , peelable and other barrier coatings. No other cleaning process is as effective as Cold Jet dry ice blasting to remove the paint and coatings.

Dry ice blast cleaning removes all old peel-coat, solvent-born paint overspray, and enamel and epoxy wall paint from all the vertical and horizontal interior booth surfaces.

E-Coat and powder coat line cleaning:

Prior to the painting of automobiles, auto body frames move through an enclosed area where a gray like substance called e-coat is sprayed on the auto frame. E-coat is a protective layer applied before paint in order to prevent rusting.

The rollers that carry the auto frames through this enclosed area tend to build up of e-coat which causes them to clog and slow down the process. When the rollers slow down do to clogging, there is an increase in production downtime and inefficiencies. The typical method used to unclog the rollers is to use a pressure washer. This cleaning method creates over-spray and secondary-waste which require cleaning up after pressure washing. Cold Jet dry ice blasting can remove the e-coat material in a fraction of the time and can keep the rollers cleaner longer compared to pressure washing.

Tool Cleaning:

A good preventative maintenance program should include tool cleaning and dry ice blasting is recommended as the solution when weld slag and spatter are involved. Hammer and chisels are have been traditionally used for cleaning tools. Many production facilities are adopting a "No Contact Cleaning" process in their maintenance program. This is to prevent costly damage to tooling. Cold Jet dry ice blasting is a process that accomplishes this "No Contact" initiative because the dry ice is blasted onto the surface being cleaned and the dry ice sublimates eliminating any contact and secondary waste.

Personnel or Man Fans:

Large industrial fans are used in many manufacturing plants to keep production areas cool and air circulating. These fans continuously get a build-up of dirt and grime on the blades creating inefficient circulation in the production areas. Current cleaning methods include removing the protective screen or frame from the fan, then cleaning each individual blade with a cleaning solution. This process can typically take over 1 hour to clean one fan. It is not uncommon to find hundreds of fans in manufacturing plants. Dry ice blasting can clean these fans in about 15 minutes saving valuable time and labor with no secondary waste clean up.
